Caldwell Syrah
Caldwell Vineyard
Caldwell Vineyard Syrah – A Testament to Craftsmanship and Passion
At the heart of the renowned Coombsville AVA in Napa Valley, Caldwell Vineyard stands as a beacon of innovative winemaking, guided by the visionary John Caldwell. A pioneer in the region since the 1970s, John transformed a rugged hillside into one of Napa’s most prestigious vineyards, famously smuggling vine cuttings from Bordeaux to enhance the genetic diversity of his plantings.
John Caldwell’s meticulous approach to farming and his relentless pursuit of perfection are evident in every bottle of Caldwell Vineyard Syrah. Each vine is carefully nurtured, using sustainable practices that reflect his deep respect for the land. This commitment to quality results in powerful, expressive wines that are as rich in character as they are in flavor.
Our clone 877 Syrah is a bold expression of the terroir, characterized by its deep violet hues and complex layers of blackberry, plum, and peppery spices. It’s a full-bodied wine with a structure that promises excellent aging potential, yet it remains beautifully balanced with a velvety texture and a long, lingering finish.
Enjoy the fruits of John Caldwell’s labor and passion paired with the winemaking skill of Jason Moore —a wine truly worthy of its heritage and a reflection of the mastery that defines Caldwell Vineyard.

SYRAH COOMBSVILLE
Perhaps my favorite of owner-winemaker Jason Moore’s wines is the Syrah he makes from the Caldwell Vineyard. The 2023 Syrah Caldwell Vineyard hints at menthol and cracked pepper, then flows forth in a gentle river of boysenberry fruit. Full-bodied and rich, it verges on being a South Australian style, with velvety tannins and hints of dark chocolate on the long, lingering finish.
